Makuzeze Primary School recorded only one pass at the 2012 Grade Seven examinations and the villagers believe the acting District Education
Officer, Headman Mpofu, and the acting headmaster, Victoria Pasipanodya, are liable for the problems bedeviling the school.
The community is dismayed a number of senior teachers were allegedly transferred in preference of less experienced teachers.
“We are in agreement with the Makuzeze Community resolutions that the acting DEO must be dismissed from his position as he is bent on destroying the educational progress of the area,” reads a petition signed by 76 locals and addressed to the Provincial Education Department.
The spokesperson of the community, Mqondisi Moyo, said locals were demanding the long-serving teachers who were transferred be re-instated to their positions. He said the community was encouraged by efforts by local Member of Parliament, Edward Mkhosi and said the local traditional leadership, were looking into the problems.
Mpofu and Pasipanodya are denying all accusations that they are responsible for the decline of standards at the school.
