Hotel ownership wrangle

Two private companies here are locked in an ownership wrangle over the city’s biggest hotel, Shamwari Hotel. The development is likely to offset the small mining town’s hopes of benefitting from tourist arrivals from the World Tourism Organisation event in Victoria Falls in August.

The hotel, located in the city’s main street, was previously run by prominent businessperson, Emmanuel Dizha, of TMR company. However, another local business mogul, Kenias Sibanda, has emerged to claim ownership of the hotel on the basis that he bought the property from its South African owner who has not been identified.

Sibanda is the managing director of Kwekwe Properties and has interests in the mining sector. Last week guests at the hotel were haphazardly moved out after local messenger of court Energy Pedzera brought an eviction order granted by Magistrate, Letwin Rwodzi.

However, Dizha, through his lawyers, Muhonde Attorneys, has filed an urgent application opposing eviction before the Bulawayo High Court. In his opposing statements, Dizha says his eviction is politically motivated amid reports that top Zanu (PF) officials in the city are pushing for the take-over.
