Illegal beer deadly

A Mozambican brew commonly known as Zed continues to put the lives of drinkers in danger, despite calls by police and health officials not to drink illegally imported beers.

The illicit beer, which has 43 percent alcohol content, is being smuggled into the country from
Mozambique by cross border traders.

The beer is sold for $1 and it only takes one 100ml plastic
bottle to get drunk. Low remuneration coupled by
high rate of unemployment has led many Zimbabweans to buy illegal beers.

Recently, a teacher from Chikora primary school was found dead in a
classroom after he had drunk to much Zed.
Police confirmed the death of Forward Chindedza of Dangamvura high
density in Mutare.
His body was discovered by a security guard from the school who was on night duty.

The police have discouraged members of the public against drinking illegal
beers.
