Because the genre is mostly popular with the young, Kaluba, stage name Man of Bliss, has sprung into instant popularity with his debut gospel album – Sinjalo, recently released by Afro Beats Records, which he co-owns.
“The kwaito music genre is quite popular in Southern Africa and has been widely accepted and recognised internationally, mainly in the secular music industry and among the youth,” said the Bulawayo-born singer. “My love for this music genre, my heart for youths and my drive for the propagation of the gospel by innovative means has seen me adopt this genre as a tool for evangelism. I use it to preach, declare and proclaim the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in an exciting way.”
In his 12-track album, the musician mainly gives encouragement to Christians not to tire of praising God and also sings about the advantages of going to church, which are underlined by peace of mind and spiritual prosperity.
Hit songs in the album, done in Ndebele, English and Tswana, include Making an Impact, an invitation to the youth to join the dance for Christ, Uyamemeza, a re-arrangement of an age-old chorus on prophet Ezekiel’s bones miracle, Sundae smile and Ey’khala Kahle, which is a self-promotion of the singer’s music label.
There is also Spiritual Warfare, which warns about the existence of various spirits, most of them evil, that are trying to take control of the human mind.
The 27-year-old musician began his musical career as secular musician in 2006, but changed to gospel music in 2008.
“This album has created a storm, not only in the Christian world but the society at large because it brings glory, splendour and the bliss of God into the lives of many people across all divides,” added the Christ Embassy church member.
He attributed his album’s high quality to the efforts of notable names like DJ Mzola Asan and Vito “Vyrus” Mathonsi, who produced Khuxman’s popular song, “Vumelani Isangoma”, which some people have mistakenly given to South African-based DJ and hitmaker, Oskido.
