Minister, war vets’ fight for farm

Masvingo governor and resident minister Willard Chiwewe has clashed with war veterans over the ownership of Allanvale farm in Chiredzi.

The war vets are now
seeking the intervention of president Robert Mugabe, while
Chiwewe claims the farm belongs to him.

The war vets insist they invaded the sugar cane plot
in 2000 but the former resident minister
has been seeking the intervention of the police to evict what he
called ‘farm invaders’.

The Masvingo provincial lands committee chaired by incumbent governor,
Titus Maluleke, has since moved in to try and solve the problem.

A source within the provincial lands committee this week said they
were struggling to solve the land dispute since Chiwewe
reportedly allocated himself the piece of land when he was governor of
the province.

“We have had a series of meetings over this issue and it
appears we will end up ordering the 10 war veterans to be evicted,” said the source.

“Chiwewe has an offer letter and none of the former freedom fighters
have any documentation to authenticate their claims.”

One of the concerned war veterans only identified as Moyi said: “We
just want President Robert Mugabe to intervene because we are tired of
these hungry politicians who want to reap where they did not sew”.

Two years ago Chiwewe was involved in a land dispute in which he took Ganyani farm on the shores of Lake Mutirikwi.

The farm was later
returned to the Ganyani family following the intervention of the
Masvingo Provincial Lands committee.
