Pool boss steps down

Midlands’ provincial pool league chairman, Molest Gaka, has Reportedly abandoned the post he held for two years, creating a wave of uncertainty in the provincial game.

League secretary, Passmore Sadza Gutu, said clubs had since agreed to set a date to elect a new chairperson.

“We had an Annual General Meeting last Thursday, in which representatives from all the clubs agreed that we should hold elections for a new leader on January 26,” said Gutu.

He further explained that although Gaka had not officially written to the association notifying of his intention to step down, his deliberate breach of the constitution by staying away from three meetings elbowed him out.

“According to our constitution, if a member of the board fails to attend three consecutive meetings of the association, he is automatically dismissed,” explained Gutu.

Sources said Gaka, who was also the president of 2012 league champions, Pachedu, has relocated to Canada to pursue his business interests. Gaka took over leadership of the provincial 16-team league in 2011, at a time when the administration had suffered from years of disorganisation.
