Dubbed ‘Theatre on Sundays, the programme will enable young artistes to showcase their work on a weekly basis.
Amakhosi Director, Cont Mhlanga, said: “This initiative is a useful tool for tapping into the talent in the city. We want young artistes to showcase their work and get professional advice on how they can improve. Our target is at least to showcase a new play every Sunday,” said Mhlanga.
Mhlanga called upon aspiring artists in the city to come forward. “Upcoming artists can only improve their work by seeking professional guidance. Artists should avoid keeping their work to themselves,” he said.
The theatre guru said the objective of Theatre on Sundays was also to give theatre audiences an idea of what plays are worth watching.
“With Theatre on Sundays you can separate the real theatre practioners from pretenders and thus give people an idea of what to watch. This concept will go on throughout the year,” said Mhlanga. He added that the centre had come out with a rating system for the artists.
