Cattle exports will resume this month following the finalisation of a new cattle slaughter deal between the two companies. However, Maun Abattoir Manager, Mothobi Mothobi, told the Botswana parliamentary portfolio committee on Agriculture that BMC now wanted cash up front.
Zimbabwe and Botswana signed a cattle slaughter deal in 2011 where BMC was to supply 20, 000 cattle to the cash strapped CSC. Exports were stopped last year when CSC reportedly failed to pay BMC more than P2 million for cattle supplied. Zimbabwe has already dispatched two veterinary officials to Ngamiland, one of the foot and mouth affected areas, for inspections before the new slaughter deal starts.
