Elderly Pastor and 3 others arrested from Church of Christ in Chegutu

Three people, including a pastor, were arrested on Saturday, February 15, 2013 at a meeting organized by the Centre for Community Development in Zimbabwe (CCDZ) at the Church of Christ in Chegutu, Mashonaland West Province.

The objective of the programme was to raise awareness of the need for people to register to vote in the forthcoming parliamentary and presidential elections – scheduled for July – and to update the community on the new constitution.

At the end of the meeting, three plain-clothed police arrived and took away Pastor Bere, human rights activist Gift Konjana and two members from the CCDZ. They were detained at Chegutu police cells where they were held overnight. Charges are still not yet clear and they remain in custody.
