Nkomo and Maphosa were accompanied to the police station by Geoffrey Nyoni of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).
“I have just arrived from Plumtree police station where we had been summoned by the police to explain what happened at the meeting. The police allege that we used the meeting as a political platform to campaign for the MDC. They also questioned us on allegations that we incited the community to remove a water pump at Mhlanga dam,” said Nkomo in an interview with the Zimbabwean.
Nkomo said they explained to the police that the meeting in question was not political and had been called to discuss challenges which the local community are facing such as pollution of dams by Plumtree Town council and the impounding of stray cattle by the council among other issues .
He said after interrogating the two officials ,the police had let them go without any charges being laid against them . He said representatives of Zanu (PF) and the two MDC formations had been invited to the meeting.
