HIFA is Zimbabwe’s premier arts showcase which brings together local, regional and international artists. This year, HIFA will be held from 30 April to 5 May under the theme “What’s next?”
Addressing journalists in the capital on Thursday, HIFA Executive Director, Maria Wilson, said : “This year, we hope to make the event better. The corporate world involvement makes this event a unique one in the world.
“This years’ event is going to be an incredible experience for Zimbabweans as well as people who will be coming from outside the country.”
Speaking on the theme for this year’s theme, HIFA’s Artistic Director, Gavin Peter, said: “We feel something positive is happening so we would like to reflect that. We are saying, What is next for the ordinary person and what’s next for the artists themselves?”
Meanwhile, HIFA has announced a programme meant to assist Zimbabwean musicians in coming up with world class videos that can gain recognition for international awards.
“HIFA has canvassed support to ensure two Zimbabwean musicians will be able to produce world class videos that can compete at international levels such the MTV video awards. Zimbabwe’s absence at the awards has been due to lack of financial support.
“The first musician will be chosen by HIFA and the second one will be chosen by the people who will be voting through the social media,” said HIFA Communications Manager, Tafadzwa Simba.
He said the two chosen artists will be announced at the end of April this year.
