The villagers allege Kamwanjiwa dam in Nyamande village in Mudzi district is now heavily infested with crocodiles that are targeting the villager’s homesteads at night and attacking livestock.
“The crocodiles are on a hunting spree and they attack humans,” said a local woman.
A villager was attacked one evening on the way home from drinking with his colleagues.
“The group of four men managed to overcome the crocodile,” said an onlooker.
Last month, a family from the area buried their son’s skull after he was attacked by the crocodiles while fishing at the dam.
A colleague of the deceased who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “The family is still traumatised by the experience.” Efforts to get a comment from the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority were fruitless.
