Manyanya wins National Chess Champs

Kudzaishe Manyanya of Goromonzi High school is this year's winner of the under 17 boys category after defeating the tournament's favourites Victor Muchemwa and Lawrence Tavagwisa of Harare.He was however tied on the first place with Thomas Amin of Mabvuku High School who came second on bucholtz.

He only lost to Amin in his first game.He finished with 6 points out of 7 games of play.So was Amin who only drew two games to finish with the same points.These winners will represent Zimbabwe at the World Schools Chess Championships to be held in Greece from the 6th-15th of May 2013.

In the under 17 girls category Nomalungelo Mathe won the title eclipsing last year's winner Paidaishe Zengeni of St. Johns Harare to second place.Bhekile Ndlovu of Gifford High in Bulawayo won the uder 15 category ahead of Takunda Mudzingwa of St.Georges Harare to second place.In third place was Solomon Chimuzura of Mabvuku High school who drew against Bhekile in the last round.

Cynthia Nyashanu won the under 15 category followed by Charity Chiweshe of Mash West Province.Harare only had 8 representatives who managed to bag in 5 medals,3 silver and 2 bronze.The coach for the team Victor Chimbamu was very elated for producing such a fine effort with the fewest pupils in the tourney from Harare.He was actually aiming for some gold medals instead of the silver and bronze medals.The tournament was held at Frontline Institute in Bindura from the 21st of February -24 February.
