Poll puts Zanu (PF), MDC-T neck-and-neck

One in four Zimbabweans believe Zanu (PF) is not willing to honour its part of the GPA deal, while one in five levelled similar accusations against the MDC-T.

A survey by the Mass Public Opinion Institute has revealed that 37 percent of respondents credited MDC-T for its willingness to fulfil provisions of the GPA while 34 percent said Zanu (PF) was sincere to the Interparty Agreement.

In light of the ongoing crackdown on NGOs by the police, political analysts and Human Rights Defenders said Zanu (PF) was fulfilling its resolutions made at the party's 12th and 13th Conferences in 2011 and 2012.

To date eight NGOs have been affected by the police raids on registered civil society organisations. The blitz comes ahead of the referendum expected on 16 March 2013.

Though the majority of Zimbabweans are expected to vote yes at the referendum, 30 percent of poll respondents did not feel free to reveal their voting preference.

Sixty percent of Zimbabweans of voting age said they had heard of Copac's process of making a new constitution while 56 percent claimed to have only heard of the July 2012 Draft Constitution.

Most people remained convinced that the involvement of International Observers from SADC, UN and the European Union would help guarantee a peaceful election this year.
