In an interview last week, Miriam Mushaninga from the ZWDT Advocacy Unit said: “Now that there is talk of elections this year we are reminded of the horrible scenes that completely destroyed the lives of women in 2008. We now demand justice. We made police reports in 2008 but nothing was done,” said Mushaninga.
President Robert Mugabe has called for peaceful elections and last week Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said Zimbabweans were “tired” of rhetoric and the perpetrators of violence should face justice.
“Zimbabweans want a new era where knives, machetes, knobkerries and guns, as instruments of violence and repression, are no longer fashionable,” he said.
“I urge law enforcement agents to begin to take their national responsibilities seriously,” added the PM.
