Soza geared for Two Oceans

Long distance runner Charles Soza said this week that he was geared for this year’s edition of the Two Oceans Marathon, slated for March in Cape Town.

The Mutare-born Soza said he was focused on not only making the numbers, but also making an impact at the event. Dubbed the world’ most beautiful marathon, the Old Mutual-sponsored Two Oceans Half Marathon will follow a new route for the first 10km.

“I will begin serious training for it next week and there are a number of races that I will use as preparations. The Johnson Crane Half Marathon, the Deloit Marathon and the Toyota Makati Half Marathon are some of those races.”

Soza made a name for himself while still at Mutare-Haarlem Club, where he won a number of local competitions, including the Africa University Peace Marathon.

The 30-year-old, battle-hardened athlete scooped the AU Peace Half Marathon 21km title back in 2005, before he later clinched a lucrative deal that took him to South Africa, where he is now attached to Nedbank Pretoria Club.

He will run the Two Oceans Marathon on March 30 and later turn his attention to the 50km Lospkom Ultra Marathon on April 21. Since joining Nedbank Athletics Club, Soza has finished fourth in the Durban Marathon and won the Zanini Half Marathon and the Monument 10km race.
