Triangle geared for PSL

Premiership newcomers Triangle believe they have assembled a squad with enough strength and depth to last in the Castle Lager Premiership.

The Chiredzi-based club, one of the most active on the transfer market since winning promotion last November, acquired six premiership players to bolster a squad already bursting at the seams with experienced players.

They have so far snapped up Daniel Kamunhenga, veteran Limited Chikafa, Blessing Chimwamuchere, Pardon Chinungwa, Willard Gondo and young goalkeeper, Ashley Rayners.

Club secretary-general Alex Khumbula recently emphasized the team’s goal to retain their premiership status, showing confidence that the new acquisitions would add enough depth to achieve that.

“We are building a side that is good enough to stay in the top flight. After adding more experience to the team, I am confident that we will achieve it,” said Khumbula.

Triangle beat Triple B in 2-0 in their first pre-season friendly in Masvingo on Saturday, Chikafa and Silas Chiota scoring for them, but Khumbula believed they would need more time to gel.

“It was our first match and you could tell that there were some areas we still needed to work on because some of the players were still to get used to each other. I am sure that by the time the season starts, the team will be a more cohesive unit,” he said.

Before their new signings, Triangle was already home to a number of forgotten local football stars, with Sebastian Matende, Tineyi Meda, William Mapfumo, Leo Kurauzvione and David Sengu among those heavily involved in their successful promotion campaign.

Khumbula was excited about Rayners, signed from relegated Gweru-based side, Hardbody. “He has a bright future and with his age, he will benefit immensely from the guidance of Gift Muzadzi, who is coming to work with our goalkeepers,” he said.
