“The painful part is that the majority of these books have been written by foreigners,” Mujuru said while addressing mourners at the burial of the late Ambassador of Zimbabwe to Democratic Republic of Congo, John George Mayowe (60) at the National Heroes Acre today.
Mayowe had just completed writing a book that narrates his experiences during the war and his relationship with the late, Josiah Tongogara, with the view of leaving behind a correct legacy of the war of liberation.
Mujuru added that most of the foreign historians sought to distort the history of the liberation struggle and post independent Zimbabwe.
“I wish therefore to appeal to our learned Zimbabweans, former freedom fighters, research scholars to take up the challenge to write the true history of the struggle from a Zimbabwean perspective that Mayowe sought to achieve,” she said.
“This will be a wealth of knowledge that we shall bequeath to the born-frees and future generations for prosperity,” added Mujuru.
Mujuru is acting president while President Robert Mugabe in Equatorial Guinea attending a Third Africa and South America Summit.
