Zim starlet Masuku impresses Belgian side

Bantu Rovers and Zimbabwe Under-20 star, Nqobizitha Masuku, looks to have impressed during his recent trial with Belgian topflight club, Cercle Brugge.

Musuku, a talented defensive midfielder, spend three weeks in Belgium and Bantu Rovers secretary Wilfred Sibanda said the struggling Jupiler League club had written an impressive report on the player.

“They gave a very good report and we are in the process of responding to it, but if ever there is going to be any deal, it will be for next season, since the transfer window has already closed,” said Sibanda. “Everything will depend on what happens to the club, because they are currently fighting relegation.”

Former Highlanders players Honour Gombami and Vusa Nyoni have in the past turned out for Cercle Brugge. But the club is in real danger of being relegated as they sat rock bottom of the 16-team Pro League with 14 points from 25 matches after the weekend matches.

In the interim, Masuku would continue turning out for Bantu in the Southern region Division One, despite reported interest from some premiership teams, including Zvishavane-based FC Platinum and fallen PSL giants, Caps United.

“We have heard reports that some premiership sides were interested in him, but there is nothing official so far,” said Sibanda. “Besides he is a very loyal player. He is the captain of the team and is happy to stay and help us fight for promotion”
