The South African government has advised Zimbabwean permit-holders with renewed passports to apply for a permit transfer.

When the Zimbabwe Documentation Programme was rolled out two years ago, some people applied with passports that were nearing their expiration date and had feared they could lose the remaining lifespan of their permits.

However, a DHA official, Ronney Marhule, said this week that those who had since renewed their passports should apply for the transfer of the permits to their new passports.

“The permit is transferable to the new passport to reflect the total of four years from the day it was applied,” said Marhule.

“The applicant needs to submit copies of their passport and a confirmation letter from their employer or educational institution, depending on the type of permit they have. Permit transfer takes a maximum period of 30 days.” He said those with lost passports should produce an affidavit declaring the same, together with copies showing that they were previously issued with a permit.
