MDC-T Councillor, Golden Nyazviko of Ward 1, Goronga (A) told The Zimbabwean that a group of Zanu (PF) youths led by Smart Kamwaza was forcing villagers to pay $1 to get proof of residence letters.
“Smart Kamwanza, George Chizhowa, Jona Botso, Never Kativu and Rosemary Nyowana have been taking money from innocent villagers. They are using a truck (ABD 7642) belonging to Peter Karukuimba,” he said.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission failed to kick start its voter registration campaign scheduled for 3 January due to financial constraints. The electoral commission said it needed $8 million for voter education, voter’s roll campaign and other administrative requirements.
Nyazviko said the youths were taking advantage of first time voters who were facing challenges in getting proof of residence letters from the headman.
