It is worrying that as the election dates draw near, cases of political violence are swelling. The organisation urges all the responsible authorities to ensure that culprits of the reported cases are dealt with. The unfortunate death of 12 year old Christpowers Maisiri in Headlands as well as the continuous harassment of ZPP Director, Jestina Mukoko and the petrol bombing of William Chapepa's house, a ZANU PF official are some of the incidences which leave the nation tainted in as far as having credible elections is concerned. There is need for a swift professional law enforcement intervention to bring the perpetrators to justice as it reassures Zimbabweans that their political leaders sincerely want, and will insist on, peace and peaceful elections in 2013.
Heal Zimbabwe Trust is therefore appealing to the people of Zimbabwe to maintain peace and tranquillity before, during and after the referendum. As Heal Zimbabwe, we remain optimistic and convinced that Zimbabweans have the capacity to define their own destiny in a peaceful and progressive manner. Such a move will not only impact positively on Zimbabwe’s need for a new constitution, but will also strengthen the democratic capacity and character of our nation’s political, economic and social practices.
The SADC electoral observer mission invited to observe the Constitutional Referendum in accordance with the regional bloc’s guidelines governing democratic elections has also harnessed the need for Zimbabweans to participate peacefully in the referendum thus ensuring a free, fair and democratic exercise. Pastor Magaya, the Heal Zimbabwe Board Secretary, cautioned the Principals to the GPA who of late have been calling for peace by stating that "…..The Principals in the Inclusive Government should walk their talk in calling for peace and publicly de-associate themselves from anyone who commit crimes on their account….". He further emphasised that Zimbabweans at large should shun any acts of political violence and clamour for peace and stability…. Peace Begin with Me, Peace Begins with You, Peace begins with All of Us.
