Al-Shabaab divides Zanu (PF)

A Zanu (PF) terror group known as Al-Shabaab has divided local leadership amid reports a senior party official wrote to Commissar Webster Shamu accusing members aligned to Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa of creating the group.

The group, that has been terrorising residents, took its name from an Islamic terror group operating in Somalia.

According to sources, senior party member, Retired Army Captain David Mutinyi Juro, who is in the Mujuru faction, has written to Shamu warning that Zanu (PF) will be humiliated in the next polls if the operations of Al-Shabaab are not contained.

“Juro further informed Shamu that the party’s provincial secretary for security, Owen Mudha Ncube, who is Mnangangwa’s confidante, together with two others- Moses Murada and Tapiwa Muto, are responsible for the creation of the group and its operations,” said the source.

A letter written to Juro by Ncube, Murada and Muto’s lawyer, Valentine Mutatu, and seen by The Zimbabwean confirms the fissures. The three are demanding $10 000 each from Juro.

Part of the letter reads:

“Our clients have been defamed and have suffered damages in the sum of $10,000 each. We have therefore been instructed to demand that you deposit the money with us or make arrangements for payment of the same. If you fail to do so we shall proceed to institute court action without further notice.”

Settlement Chikwinya, the MDC-T Mbizo MP, said he was a victim of the terror group. Kwekwe Central MP, Blessing Chebundo, also gave evidence of abuse at the hands of Al-Shabaab.
