Arrested MDC-T Headlands secretary still missing

The whereabouts of the MDC-T’s secretary general for Headlands, Mr Samson Magumura, who was arrested by police officers at the weekend, are still unknown.

Mr Magumura was picked up around 5 am at his homestead by a truck with registration number ABG 7038 on Saturday. There were four armed people in the white truck, one lady three men on Saturday and the unprocedural nature of the arrest has resulted in it being labeled ‘an abduction’.

The MDC-T’s information provincial officer Pishai Muchauraya on Monday told ZimEye that Mr Magumura’s whereabouts are still unknown. “He is still with the police at an undisclosed place,” he said.

He continued: “They removed him from Nyazura police station. We checked with all stations in Makoni, he is not there.”

Mr Muchauraya however suggested that the police might have transported him to Mucheke, or Buhera. “He could be be detained in Macheke or Buhera. We are worried about his safety.” he said.

Headlands is where 12 year old boy Christpower Maisiri was killed recently in an alleged arson attack that has become key subject on how unprepared Zimbabwe might be for national elections due to take place in less than 4 months.

Meanwhile, Mr Muchauraya clarified that Mr Magumura’s surname had been mi-spelt in the media as ‘Magumise’.

Earlier on the party’s global secretary general Tendai Biti complained about the Magumura’s unexplained arrest or abduction as the party claimed, “At the moment, we don’t know where he is. A report has been made at Rusape Police Station by our Manicaland office. At the initial report, Rusape police indicated that they were not aware of this arrest or abduction. But later on they called our information provincial officer Pishai Muchauraya advising him that they knew who had done the arrest but they did not have him in custody,” Tendai Biti announced earlier.

This comes as another man in nearby Mbire arrested for taking pictures of the voting process in breach of the country’s electoral laws, was charged with the offence.

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) chairperson Rita Makarau told reporters in Harare yesterday that police nabbed Marshall Berejena for recording the voting processes using a cell phone camera.
