Coaching clinic gets thumbs up

The local coaching trio of Calistus Pasuwa, Bekithemba Ndlovu and Rosemary Mugadza recently gave its thumbs-up to a coaching clinic held by German-born Eric Rutemoller. More than 30 coaches took part in the modern day skills of the game programme.

“I am learning a lot from my head coach Kaindu, but the course also gave me something that will make me a better coach,” said Highlanders assistant coach, Ndlovu.

“The style of African football is different from that of Europe, but I still believe we can combine them to come up with something effective here.”

Pasuwa, in the deep of the end with reigning league champions, Dynamos, said he would use the skills at the Glamour Boys.

“Most teams in Africa play the European style of football these days and it is important for us to keep learning new skills. We need to upgrade to new tactics and put them to practice. It is sad that I have only learnt this now, as I would have loved to implement it time for our earlier Champions League assignments,” he said.

With the Zifa having recently appointed Dieter Klaus Pagels, a German, as the new Warriors head coach, Mugadza believed a coaching clinic by the mentor’s countryman would help local coaches speak the same coaching language.

“It helps us know what we are expected to do. I think we have learnt many of the variations we need to go back to our clubs and implement. The Mighty Warriors have improved very much in the past and I hope with the new knowledge, I can help them to keep rising.”
