The principals to the Global Political Agreement agreed that nationwide meetings to drum up support for a draft constitution should be non-partisan and congregants must not wear party symbols.
Other delegates at the meeting vowed to walk out if those in charge allowed the supporters to make contributions while in party wear.
The supporters, led by a woman only identified as Matilda, stormed the meeting at the Masvingo Civic Centre and demanded to be heard. The group refused to leave the meeting, arguing that it had the right to campaign for President Robert Mugabe anywhere in the country.
“No one should tell me when and where to campaign for my President and this is just what we are just doing,” said one of the supporters.
Zanu (PF) Gutu West Member of Parliament Knowell Mandebvu had to intervene and order the group to leave.
“These COPAC meetings are apolitical and therefore it is not acceptable for people to come to these meetings in party regalia,” he said.
