Councillors want Mayor fired

Two Masvingo City councillors have asked Local Government Rural and Urban Development Minister, Ignatius Chombo, to fire Mayor Femias Chakabuda and Town Clerk Adolph Gusha accusing them of running down the local authority.

Deputy Mayor Selina Maridza and Ward Six Councillor, David Vasivenyu, made the request in a December 2012 letter to Chombo.

The two councillors and Mayor Chakabuda are from the MDC-T while Gusha is understood to be a Zanu (PF) sympathiser.

The Masvingo city council is currently embroiled in a legal wrangle with its entire 500 workers following salary arrears amounting to $4 million.

“We have noted with concern that all the problems affecting this city are as a result of the mayor and the town clerk who are running the council affairs as their private business.

It continued: “We therefore call for your urgent intervention in making sure that all this mess is corrected. A remedial action even of relieving them of their duties would be most welcome.”
