A well-attended tournament held recently at the Grassroot Soccer Voluntary Counselling and Testing Tournament at Amakhosi Ground in Gwabalanda kick-started the initiative.
The organisation’s Soccer Programmes Officer, Linderrose Moyo, said the exercise drew a positive response from members of the public.
People from Gwabalanda and surrounding areas received voluntary counselling and testing services, TB screening, referrals for voluntary medical male circumcision, CD4 count and family planning services.
New Start, the country’s largest non-profit HIV counselling and testing Programme, provided the services to the members of the public for free. Moyo was pleased with the outcome.
“We had a positive turnout from the community. Members of the public of all age groups came and took advantage of the free health services,” she said.
Isilwane Youth Centre won the tournament, beating Luveve Youth Centre 1-0.
