HZT Commends Zimbabweans for voting In peace

Heal Zimbabwe applauds the people of Zimbabwe for holding the referendum in a generally peaceful environment. The weekend’s plebiscite recorded few incidences of political violence. HZT also commends the police for assisting in ensuring the referendum process proceeded well in a peaceful manner.

Credit also goes to Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for the job well done in organising the elections in a very short period of time. ZEC handled the referendum in a transparent and organised manner although few irregularities were recorded in some areas. And the accreditation of many observers by ZEC from a number of organisations went a long way in providing checks and balances of the process.

What is left now is for the country to imitate the same anti- political violence stance at the upcoming national elections scheduled possibly for July 2013. There is no reason for Zimbabweans to fight amongst each other and it is HZT's hope that the political leaders continue to spread the gospel of peace and continue to encourage their members to co-exist and tolerate each other despite their differences.

It is HZT's anticipation that the road map to elections should promote and encourage peace at all cost bearing in mind that no political party or human being is worthy to die for. With the draft constitution set to get an overwhelming response from Zimbabweans, HZT calls upon the Government to ensure that it swiftly moves in to implement the Constitution and other necessary reforms as the country heads for the watershed elections.
