“The illegal miner was shot in the Marange Resources Concession by a private guard from a security company called National Eye (which is) contracted by Marange Resources to offer security services,” said the CCDT in a statement.
The shooting incident, according to the CCDT, occurred at around 1am. The CCDT said it was trying to get the name of the deceased person.
When contacted for comment, police provincial spokesperson for Manicaland, Enock Chishiri said he was out of office and referred questions to one Chinanda.
However, efforts to get a comment from Chinanda were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered.
Circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear, and efforts to get comments from both Marange Resources and National Eye were fruitless.
On another note, the CCDT said that families that were relocated to Arda Transsau by Anjin Diamond Mining were facing starvation.
“Anjin last gave each family 100kg mealie meal, 10 litres cooking oil, 10kg beans, 6kg salt and 4 bars soap in October 2012. This is despite the fact that the mining companies agreed to give food to relocated families after every 3 months until they are given land for cultivation.
The families in Arda Transsau still have not been given land for cultivation.
One of the families that spoke to CCDT testified that it has been surviving on pumpkins for the past 3 days, says the statement.
From 2011, Anjin relocated more than 800 families to Arda Transau to pave way for its diamond mining operations.
When contacted for comment, Lindiwe Ngwenya, Anjin’s Human Resources Manager, said the information provided by CCDT was incorrect, before hanging up.
There are also reports of a possible anthrax outbreak in the Marange area. “CCDT fears that there could be an outbreak of Anthrax in Marange, especially since cattle had been dying during the past months,” stated the human rights watchdog.

What is this if its not barbarianism and gluttony in its worst form! Everyone who is mining in Marange or anywhere with or without a license is illegal as long as he or she is not following the country’s mining laws like remitting revenue to the government and selling the minerals not to the recommended or secret markets. So what must be done? Kill them all?
