She was charged with running unregistered organisation (ZPP), taking part in the management of the same organisation, smuggling radios and cellular phones and failing or refusing to register as a dealer under the Broadcasting Services Act.

Mukoko handed herself to the Harare Central Police this morning accompanied by her lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, and was set free after a docket was opened against her.

The docket was sent to the Attorney General’s office for vetting.

Mukoko, an award winning human rights defender and former national broadcaster, reported to the police following recent public statements by the police that they were looking for her.

ZPP offices were recently raided by police.

In December 2008, Mukoko was abducted by State security agents who later handed her over to the police after an international outcry.

Her organisation researches on and documents human rights abuses and seeks to foster peace and harmony in Zimbabwe.
