Local NGO empowers youths

A local non-governmental organisation, Alight Zimbabwe Trust, has plans to start empowerment projects to assist unemployed youths throughout the country.

Alight Zimbabwe Trust was launched in March 2012 to inspire youths from diverse backgrounds to contribute to the well-being of their families, communities and the country.

The organisation’s Chairperson, Edius Makono, said the empowerment programmes would target marginalised youths.

“Currently, we run a ‘Little Sun’ project to distribute solar lamps to disadvantaged youths to sell in their communities. The project caters for youths in both rural and urban constituencies. The project has spread to Kwekwe,

Epworth, Mtoko, Mutare Urban and Mutasa,” said Makono. He said that Alight Zimbabwe Trust would soon start poultry and piggery projects, as well rural libraries in remote parts of the country.

As part of its programmes to assist disadvantaged youths, Alight Zimbabwe Trust has a mentorship and career guidance programme which focuses on leadership development.
