According to a statement by MDC-T, Sunny Zvenyika Chibanda and his wife who reside at Shawasha flats were assaulted following a visit by Eric Knight who has declared interests in Mbare constituency.
Knight is a radio presenter based in UK but seeking to return to Zimbabwe, where he gained fame working for the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation.
It is reported that the two were saved by some members of the Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee but were further assaulted after the committee had left.
Lampard Matava who accompanied Chibanda to Matapi Police Station was reportedly arrested by the police and is still in police custody.
Another Mbare resident Frankie Kanyenze was allegedly attacked after he tried to intervene and was hospitalised at Harare Central Hospital.
However the suspected perpetrators identified as Gift Riot, Kudakwashe Ngomera, Tatenda Ngomera, Everson Ngomera, Chamu Makova, Martin Muunze, Danmore Njitima, Kekenani Bhasikolo, Talkmore Mafurirano, Hebert Nzira remain at large.
Harare police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tariro Dube could not immediately confirm the incident saying she had contacted Matapi Police Station and was waiting for feedback.
