Mutodi to stand as MP

Mutodi, who has over the years played down his political ambitions, finally confirmed that he is eyeing the Goromonzi West constituency on a Zanu (PF) ticket.

“The people of Goromonzi West have already decided. They are waiting for election day. I am the incoming Member of Parliament for that area, like it or hate it. I am happy Zanu (PF) will be retaining that seat. I feel sorry for Beatrice Nyamupinga and her backers,” said the rhumba star.

Sources say Mutodi has the support of powerful politicians from Defence Minister Emerson Munangagwa’s faction of Zanu (PF).

Mutodi accused his political opponents to for trying to deter him from contesting in the constituency.

“We need to desist from character assassination and embarrassing each other. If we fail to respect and give honour to our heroes and talented people of our society, we easily become our own detractors,” he said.

Mutodi’s political ambitions were evident when he begun donating textbooks and building material to various schools in a bid to woo Zanu (PF) supporters to endorse him for the job.
