The MDC- T has approached the Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee JOMIC over the issue as hunger tightens its grip in the areas.
In Gutu district several MDC supporters are reported to be starving after being denied relief food aid. Addressing journalist in Gutu recently party provincial spokesman. Harrison Mudzuri said his supporters were also being forced to join Zanu (PF) structures during the Party’s ongoing restructuring exercise.
“JOMIC is not helpful at all since it cannot monitor issues of food distribution on a daily basis,” said Mudzuri. “The situation is terrible in some areas and we know that it is a Zanu strategy to make sure that people vote with their stomachs and not their minds,” he added.
Zanu (PF) Masvingo provincial chairman Lovemore Matuke accused MDC supporters of being cry babies. He said he had never received any report of a chief denying some people access to food.
Gutu senator Empire Makumure said some traditional chiefs in Gutu were forcing kraal heads and headmen not to give food aid to MDC supporters. “We just hope the situation will soon improve as JOMIC strengthens its efforts to make sure food is not politicised,” he said.
