Prosecutor Tafadzwa Mupariwa said the misunderstanding between the accused, Pride Mpofu (20), and his brother, Melusi Nyathi, started in 2010. The two are from Ekuthuleni Village under Chief Malisa in Silobela.
The complainant said at one time the matter was brought before a traditional village court but the accused was not satisfied with the judgment.
The court further heard that on May 27, 2010, the complainant was sitting on a veranda at Gothic 4 Shops with a friend, Dumisani Moyo. The accused then approached the complainant from behind and pushed him to the ground. He pulled out a knife and stabbed Nyathi once in his chest before fleeing the scene.
According to a medical report produced in court as evidence, Nyathi sustained a laceration on the lower chest and a deep cut in his abdomen.
The accused pleaded guilty.
In passing judgment, Magistrate Madire said there was need for the complainant to be compensated outside the jail term to be served by Nyathi.
“It is the ruling of this court that accused shall pay $990 to the complainant as compensation for medical costs emerging from the attack,” said the magistrate.
