“Our Manicaland provincial team has already visited the area and their preliminary findings show that the police have been acting on partisan grounds. Three years ago a JOMIC investigation found that there was tension between police and MDC-T and that the Maisiri family had been a target of political violence,” said JOMIC National Co-chairperson Elton Mangoma.
“We are giving the police a little time to investigate this matter further, after which we will send our national executive to carry out an inquiry,” he said.
Christpower Maisiri (12), the son of MDC-T Deputy Organising Secretary for Headlands, Shepherd Maisiri, was burnt to death in a suspected arson in Headlands but the police ruled out foul play.
In an interview with The Zimbabwean ZRP National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner, Charity Charamba said she had never received reports of tension between the police and MDC-T in Headlands.
“I am hearing that for the first time. We have never received such reports and the police are a professional arm of government, not a political entity,” she said.
