The three Cs against gender violence

The Parare/ Enkudleni Men’s Forum has come up with an initiative entitled Community Commitment Charters to enable men to tackle gender-based violence.

Padare’s Programmes Officer, Nakai Nengomasha, said GBV was not only a community issue but a national one “which needs community commitment and engagement”.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, a total of 3 141 cases of GBV were reported from January to May last year, the majority of whom were women.

“In our bid to fight GBV, Padare/ Enkudleni Men’s Forum came up with the idea of community commitment charters where the communities craft their own desired standards that they agree to adhere to,” said Nengomasha.

He said the organisation did not prescribe solutions but “gave the people a platform to express how they feel and come up with the solutions that they think are best applicable in their various constituencies”.

“We are making inroads in the fight against GBV and from the different areas that we work in such as Manicaland, Mashonaland Central and Midlands, we have managed to form partnerships with the traditional leadership. The 3Cs are helping us a lot because the communities feel that they are part and parcel of these initiatives to fight GBV.”
