Chief Executive of Africa Albida Tourism (AAT), Ross Kennedy said “Operators have come together through solid relations on the ground and with the Zimbabwe Council for Tourism (ZCT) to take a common positive view on the Congress and its’ potential benefits to our destination and our country.”
AAT’s award winning Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, the RCI Gold Crown Resort Lokuthula Lodges as well as the new and exclusive Victoria Falls Safari Club are fully geared for the event.
“We have invested in skills, upgrades, refurbishment, modernisation and renewing of products in preparation for an event of this scale, as well as to support the growth of tourism in our destination,” said Kennedy.
“The private sector is in key discussions and negotiations with the UNWTO Technical Team and Conference Organising Team on planning, preparation and mutual agreement on rates and room allocations for the UNWTO period,” he said.
“The infrastructural upgrades taking place will benefit the region for years to come – and the most significant legacy is the runway and airport improvement which will, without question, position Victoria Falls as a key regional hub for 40 – 50 years to come.”
“The community and the private sector have come together extremely well in Victoria Falls to make everyone understand the extreme importance of the Congress for the destination and for the country – therefore it is evidently worth backing significantly, which we have done and will continue to do.
“There is no question that Victoria Falls has renewed and regained its status as a major African tourism hub,” he said. “All the signs are that Zimbabwe tourism is turning a corner and this is reflected in many varied ways.”
Kennedy paid tribute to the Minister of Tourism, Walter Mzembi, for his positive engagement with the industry. “We are fortunate to have a minister who is full of positive energy and who is playing a forceful and critical role.”
