Dozens of people from Chiredzi and the surrounding communities had gathered at the hospitals after receiving word that the ministry of health and child welfare was conducting interviews.
Witnesses said that by 8am, a big crowd had already gathered. The interviews started at around 9am and tempers soon flared when locals realised that only those who had applied were being considered for the jobs.
A group of war veterans then stormed the hospital and disrupted the interview process.
An official at the hospital who refused to be named told The Zimbabwean that they had since suspended the process.
Tariro Museza is one job seeker who was not happy with the disturbances. “We have nothing to do with these war veterans. We just wanted employement”, said Museza. “We are also not happy with what has transpired and we just blame the police for not arresting the culprits.”
Masvingo provincial medical director, Robert Mudyiradima, confirmed the disturbances but refused to shed any more light.
Witnesses said the war veterans came from Mkwasine sugar cane growing area after receiving word that Zanu (PF) supporters were being denied the chance to be interviewed for the vacant posts.
