Cultural arts festival for Byo

The inaugural Bulawayo Cultural Festival of Arts will be held at the National Art Gallery here from April 26-27. Coordinated by a team of young arts entrepreneurs, cultural workers and artists, the new world music and dance initiative is a response to the lack of live arts entertainment in the region.

“We hope to make this event an annual event in the culture, arts and entertainment calendar of not only Matabeleland but Zimbabwe as a whole,” said Butshilo Nleya, leader of the organising team.

Dubbed Gabaza ngobuntu bakho (Be proud of identity), the event will feature different performers from around the world.

“Our aim is to foster commercially benefiting relationships between brands, artists and consumers,” said Nleya, who has been involved in the organisation of several international festivals, including the Glastonbury Arts Festival, WOMAD, Edinburg and Began In Africa galas.

The Festival has a full-time secretariat focusing on delivering the activities of the festival, fundraising, monitoring and evaluation.
