Dynamos who reached the final of the competition in 1998 and the semi finals ten years later are now out of the contest on a 3-1 aggregate and will now have to refocus their attention to the domestic Castle Lager Premier Soccer League competition in which they have also started off badly with one-all draws against Black Mambas and Chicken Inn.
Against Club Bizertin, the Zimbabweans were in the driving seat for the entire 90 minutes of the game but failed to convert the numerous scoring opportunities they created, and paid dearly for that.
Questions are now being raised as to how Dynamos could have lost out to a club that is not even among the top four biggest teams in Tunisia that honour belonging to Esperance, Club Africain, Etoile du Sahel and Sfaxien.
Dynamos’ elimination also brings questions about the standards of the Zimbabwean game as the Harare club has dominated Zimbabwean football but have of late failed to make an impression in continental football.
Since 2011, the Zimbabwean champions have failed to qualify for the mini league stage of the Caf Champions League. The last time they did so was way back in 2010 where they also won only one of their six matches.
Club Bizertin will now go on to meet defending champions Al Ahly of Egypt in a money spinning encounter which could have given Dynamos an opportunity to fatten their financial coffers.
For Dynamos, it is now back to the drawing board to find out where they went wrong, and a probable change in the coaching set up.
