According to the minutes, Njube, Luveve, Mzilikazi and Tshabalala clinics are no longer suitable for use as public health institutions.
“Funds, if availed will help council to renovate the clinics. The International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease has indicated to the city’s health department that it could renovate the clinics,” said the council minutes.
The department of housing and community services has already drawn a renovation plan, which is ready to be forwarded to the donors.
Bulawayo Deputy Mayor, Amen Mpofu, confirmed that clinics in some old suburbs needed an urgent face lift.
“Most of these structures were built during the colonial period and need to be rehabilitated. Some of the roofs have now developed leaks,” said Mpofu.
Some of the toilets at the affected clinics are no longer functioning while the paint has peeled off the walls. The most affected clinics are Mzilikazi and Luveve.
