Moyo, who is also the Speaker of Parliament, told The Zimbabwean that pro-democracy forces should double their efforts and make sure that the next plebiscite delivers a democratic Zimbabwe.
“This is our time to cross the bridge into Canaan and I call on all who want to see a peaceful, prosperous and democratic Zimbabwe to use the last of their energy in this fight to save the country from Zanu (PF),” said Moyo. “This is the time for us to rid Zimbabwe of the burden of an old man called Robert Mugabe.”
Moyo said in their pursuit of total freedom, Zimbabweans should also be wary of being drawn into the Zanu (PF) method of using violence, which would only take the nation a few more steps backwards.
“We all need to be united in denouncing violence. We need to allow even our political opponents to make their free choice of who should govern them,” said Moyo. “We need to put all our differences aside and work towards the Zimbabwe we want. This cannot be a one party endeavour, but a collective effort by all Zimbabweans.”
He said the MDC was ready to govern the country.
“We are ready for the elections, and ready to govern. We have gained enough experience during our apprenticeship in the inclusive government. Our President, Morgan Tsvangirai, has learnt a lot during the years he has been Prime Minister and is now ready to be the President.”
