With these new aircraft LAM now have a dozen planes with three Embraer 190s, a Boeing 737-500, three Bombardier Q400s, two Embraer 145s and three Embraer 120s.
LAM also announced that it is adding an extra flight from Maputo to the Angolan capital Luanda. In addition, the airline will now fly directly to Nairobi in Kenya, which used to be served by a flight stopping off in the northern Mozambican city of Pemba.
According to LAM Chief Executive Officer, Marlene Manave, the positioning of MEX in Nampula and Tete is in line with the company’s strategy to develop an integrated transport and communications sector and marks a new stage for LAM.
LAM estimates that as a result of its recent investment in new aircraft it will be able to increase the number of seats available by 22 per cent.
