Nobody submitted papers in Mwenezi East, Mwenezi West, Chiredzi South and North.
Masvingo provincial chairman, Wilsfaff Sitemere, said the party had struggled over the years to penetrate those areas.
“We have failed to get candidates in these four constituencies and these areas have always been a problem for us,” said Sitemere.
The party’s national organising secretary, Nelson Chamisa, said the party was considering waving the candidate selection process in order to get a candidates.
“We are even going to waive the required five years in the party and other requirements so that we have candidates in these areas”, Chamisa said. “We have to make sure that we field candidates everywhere and we have asked the provincial leadership in Masvingo to open the candidate selection process.”
Chiredzi south is represented in parliament by Ailess Baloyi, Chiredzi north is represented by Mataleni Sithole, Kudakwashe Basikita is in Mwenezi west and the late Neddy Masukume was in Mwenezi east.
Sources within Zanu (PF) said the party wanted to maintain its dominance in the affected constituencies.
“We are banking on these constituencies for Mugabe to win and we want to make sure that these areas remain no go areas for the MDC,” said a highly-placedsource within Zanu (PF).
