No to political manipulation

Most politicians lack vision and a clear ideological direction, according to the newly-elected ZAPU youth leader, Mehluli Moyo.

According to the youth, politicians were attempting to gain relevance by manipulating vulnerable youths ahead of elections.

“Most politicians have nothing new to offer. They made promises in the past about developing their constituencies but never fulfilled them. This has seen most politicians losing popularity with the electorate. They use youths to intimidate the electorate so that they are voted into power,” Moyo said.

To achieve a vibrant youth movement in ZAPU, Moyo said he would embark on a vigorous ideological training process aimed at informing and guiding the youths.

“Without a clear ideology, the participation of youths in politics is limited and unclear. Youths should join us in realising our vision, aspirations and ambitions hence create a level ground for economic emancipation,” he said.

Moyo, who hails from Umzingwane, told The Zimbabwean that his vision was to see young people taking centre stage in the political, socio-economical and national transformation agenda.

“I formally got involved in politics in 2008 when ZAPU restored its autonomous existence outside the compromised Unity Accord. I have a generational responsibility to create and achieve a democratic society that respects human rights and all its freedoms regardless of racial, tribal, regional and ethnic orientation,” he said.
