Nyazamba donates equipment

United States-based soccer star, Stanley Nyazamba, has sourced equipment that he recently donated to underprivileged youngsters from a prominent local football academy.

The 30-year-old, who plays for second-tier side Richmond Kickers and coaches its junior teams, donated soccer boots, shin guards, shirts and balls to EM Sports Academy.

Founded by Canadian-based former national team player, Eddie Mukahanana, who also comes from Bulawayo, the academy grew out of the Nguboyenja neighbourhood, where Nyazemba first played the game.

“I was also in talks with Highlanders and Nomsa Moyo, who has been pivotal in developing women’s soccer in Zimbabwe. So, I will definitely try and help them as time goes on. It is not necessarily an inspiration as to why I try and give back to the community I grew up in. I think it is just common sense. Kids in America have way more stuff than they need while those in Zimbabwe have nothing. I am also blessed to know a lot of kids and parents who helped me by donating soccer gear and equipment,” he said.

Nyazamba, who coaches Richmond Kickers’ Under-9, Under-11 and Under-14 sides, is preparing for the new season, which starts on Saturday.

“I am playing strong and enjoying it still. Going back to Zimbabwe has made me appreciate the game even more. Soccer changed my life. It opened, me the doors to the United States, and in the process I have met lots of people that have helped me on and off the field. For me it is more than just a game,” added the midfielder.
