
The constituency is currently held by MDC-T’s Heya Shoko, who narrowly beat Musakwa during the 2008 elections by nine votes, which later increased by 10 votes following a recount been requested by Zanu (PF).
Musakwa had beaten retired colonel Claudius Makova in party primary elections, and is now understood to be gunning for the senatorial post. Kereke has embarked on a lot of development projects to win the hearts of voters. He recently donated over $100,000 and embarked on an exercise to ensure that youths register as voters, hiring buses and lorries to ferry them to registration centres.
“My heart is in Bikita where I come from and I want to develop the area to the best of my ability,” said Kereke.
Musakwa, agospel singer–cum politician is also involved in projects such as the rehabilitation of boreholes and schools.
