Your vote is vital: Mawere

Exiled businessman Mutumwa Mawere says Zimbabweans should get actively get involved in politics if they want to change the governance system.

The businessman, who lost his Shabanie Mashava Mine to the Zanu (PF) government, warned that those who stayed away from decisive national programmes like elections were throwing away the only ammunition they had of changing the country’s course.

“You cannot choose to stay out of the bus and at the same time expect to be taken to your intended destination. That simply does not work,” said Mawere. “It is also of no use attacking President Robert Mugabe in places like South Africa, without him there to hear the insults. Mugabe is now a small prisoner himself. The best way to voice our concerns is to participate in every opportunity we get to change things, like campaigning, registering to vote and then participating in the process.

“After voting, you must also ensure that the same people you voted for attend to the task of fulfilling your dreams -because leaving them to do as they please will not change anything. A politician who takes people’s votes and fails to deliver is committing theft. Zimbabwean leaders have failed to deliver mainly because voters have not stepped up to their potential in terms of putting them to task,” added the businessman.
